The twist of dazzling beauty.

Hwang creates large iconic figures that embody her preoccupation with the nature of cyclical life, non-visibility and the beauty of a transient moment. Her earlier career in the fashion industry and the personal memories of 9/11 attack have led her to adopt the everyday materials into the delicate and dramatic works, whereas the artist's lifetime practice of Zen Buddhism has blended into the sophisticated hand-work accompanied by repetition and penance. Through her performative and conceptual approach, Hwang depicts the time of reflection and rumination of a human being in the society.

Hwang's work permanently resides in the collections of internationally acclaimed venues, including the Brooklyn Museum in New York, Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, Deji Art Museum in Nanjing, Dubai Opera House, Des Moines Art Center in Iowa, New York University and National Museum of Contemporary Art in Seoul.

Her work has been exhibited internationally at venues including Leila Heller Gallery in New York and Dubai, Asian Civilizations Museum in Singapore, UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, Mass MoCA in Boston, Foundation d’entreprise Hermès in Singapore, Hakgojae Gallery in Seoul, Kashya Hildebrand Gallery in Zurich and the Facebook New York Headquarter. Recently, she has successfully done her exhibition in Baker Museum in Florida, USA.

Additionally, her work is expected to be shown in the upcoming group exhibition called Nine Dragon Head in 60th Venice Biennale 2024, which is sponsored by AAW Korea-Beijing.

Hwang studied her BFA in Fine Art and is studying MPS in Art Practice at the School of Visual Arts in New York.

찬란한 아름다움 속의 반전

삶과 죽음의 순환, 가시성과 비가시성, 찰나의 아름다움을 크고 상징적인 이미지로 형상화한다. 일찍이 패션계에서 일을 한 경험과 9/11 사태를 가까운 곳에서 겪은 개인적 기억들을 바탕으로 일상의 재료를 차용하여 섬세하고 감각적인 이미지를 구현함과 동시에, 반복과 고행을 동반하는 정교한 수작업을 통해 동양적 선의 세계에서 한 인간이 사회에서 갖는 숙고와 반추의 시간을 탐구한다.

뉴욕 브루클린 미술관, 텍사스 휴스턴 미술관, 난징 데지 미술관, 두바이 오페라 하우스, 아이오와 디모인 예술 센터, 뉴욕 대학교 로비, 아부다비 왕궁 컬렉션, 한국 국립 현대미술관 등 국제적으로 인정받는 장소들의 컬렉션에 영구적으로 소장되어 있다.

또한 싱가포르의 ACM 미술관, 파리의 유네스코 본부, 보스턴의 메사추세츠 현대미술관 Mass MoCA, 싱가포르의 에르메스 재단, 메타(페이스북) 뉴욕 등에서 국제적으로 전시되었으며, 최근에는 마이에미의 베이커 미술관과 두바이의 레일라헬러 갤러리에서 개인전을 마쳤다. 한국과 북경의 AAW 후원으로 2024 베니스 특별전이 예정되어 있다.

뉴욕의 스쿨오브 비주얼아트(SVA)에서 BFA 파인아트, MPS 아트프렉티스 과정을 수학했다.
